| PowerDialer
Troubleshooting Guide Below you will find a listing of the most common problems people have had when
using their PowerDialer along with possible solutions. This listing contains problems
included in and additional to those found in Version 7.0 of the User's Guide.
I
changed the DIP switch settings on my PowerDialer and can't remember the original
settings.
PowerDialer clicks,
then disconnects my phone when I hit '*' or '#'.
Nothing happens
when I plug the wall-mount transformer into the PowerDialer.
PowerDialer hangs
up and tries again before the call has a chance to go through.
The dialer only
dials 15 times, then stops. How can I make it dial more than 15 times?
Why does
PowerDialer sometimes take longer to detect busy signals?
I programmed the
PowerDialer to do an auto-configuration but it seems to dial slowly.
Why does the
PowerDialer sometimes take a long time to connect through and hear a busy signal?
Is PowerDialer
compatible with *69, *70, etc.?
I lent my
PowerDialer to a friend and now it doesn't seem to dial as quickly as it used to. Why?
I
changed the DIP switch settings on my PowerDialer and can't remember the original
settings.
The figure below shows the default
PowerDialer DIP switch settings as they would appear from left to right looking at the
back of the PowerDialer. If you change the DIP switch settings and would like to return
them to their factory preset positions, set them as shown below.

PowerDialer
clicks, then disconnects my phone when I hit '*' or '#'.
Your telephone/wall jack
connections are hooked up backwards. Make sure to connect the incoming telephone line to
the jack marked "Wall Jack" and your telephone the the jack marked
"Telephone."

Nothing
happens when I plug the wall-mount transformer into the PowerDialer.
The "Pwr" light on the
front of the unit should glow and a power-up tune should play. If the Pwr light is not
illuminated, check to make sure your wall-mounted transformer is plugged in properly. If
you do not hear the power-up tune, the volume control may be turned all the way down. Turn
the volume control knob clockwise to increase the volume.

PowerDialer
hangs up and tries again before the call has a chance to go through.
The idle time-out is probably set
too low. Increase the idle time-out to 15 or 30 seconds. (See page 17 of the user's manual
on idle time-out).

The
dialer only dials 15 times, then stops. How can I make it dial more than 15 times?
PowerDialer can automatically dial
a telephone number more than 15 times but you must first program an alternate number.
PowerDialer will dial this number on the 16th try, then resume dialing the original phone
number. The alternate number can be any telephone number. PowerDialer requires this to
conform to FCC regulations. (See page 11 of the user's manual on programming an alternate
number).

Why does
PowerDialer sometimes take longer to detect busy signals?
Some phone companies and central
offices do not send back the correct tone for busy signals. When this occurs, PowerDialer
relies on advanced cadence detection. Cadence detection typically takes longer as well (2
seconds vs. 1/2 second).

I
programmed the PowerDialer to do an auto-configuration but it seems to dial slowly.
To have PowerDialer dial according
to the speeds it determined in its auto-configuration experiment, the auto-config select
switch must be in the "up" position. If this switch is in the down position, the
PowerDialer will dial according to the dip switch settings (dialing speed and flash time
DIP switches only). Also, make sure that the busy number you use in the 3#BUSYTELNUM#
command gives a regular, not fast, type busy signal.

Why does
the PowerDialer sometimes take a long time to connect through and hear a busy signal?
When the circuits are jammed, it
takes longer for the phone company to connect you. You still have a major advantage over
other callers, as the PowerDialer detects and redials busy numbers as quickly as possible.

Is
PowerDialer compatible with *69, *70, etc.?
Yes. If you dial *69, *70, or some
other "class service" command through your telephone company, PowerDialer will
dial it as well.

I lent
my PowerDialer to a friend and now it doesn't seem to dial as quickly as it used to. Why?
Your friend probably adjusted the
DIP switches or performed an auto-config on his or her telephone line. Check that the DIP
switches in their previous positions and/or re-perform the auto-config on your telephone
line.
